An Off Grid Life

Top posts for weekend reading

Good afternoon!

It's a smoky, hot day up here with a forecast of 29 Celsius (84 Fahrenheit) and I am boiling.

Luckily, there's enough solar power coming in to run all our ceiling fans.

It used to be that there was just one hot week every July when I grumbled because I don't like the heat.

In recent years, that's stretching to two weeks or more.

At least we have the option to go down to the dock and jump into the lake.

Anyhow, here's a quick rundown of our newest posts.

Pinterest Isn't The Only Social Media Game Around

It’s true.

Now, I know you like Pinterest.

I do too, especially for finding new homestyle recipes and reading about other people's off grid DIY hacks.

But I've been exploring other options For the past few months, I’ve been really enjoying MSN for gardening, homesteading, and, of course, recipes.

Take a look. If you follow our new account, you’ll also see our daily slideshows with all of our latest and greatest posts and recipes.

This past week, for example, we published posts on 14 Fun Family August Activities to Help You Celebrate Summer, 13 Apple, Carrot and Cranberry Recipes to Save Right Now, plus several other seasonal gardening and recipe slideshows.

I’ve also been pretty active on Flipboard, which is kind of like a curated digital magazine. Lots of gardening, alternative energy and DIY posts are shared there.

Now a couple of years ago, on the advice of another homesteading blogger, I even tried a (short-lived) experiment with making short reels on Facebook and Instagram, TikTok videos, and even a few YouTube shorts.

But at least my videos on water-glassing eggs still get views every week.

Maybe one of these days, I’ll return to making more videos, but my days are full for now.

Back to School - Learning Herbs

If you’re curious about using herbs but don’t know where to start, you’re not alone.

Herbalism can seem complicated, especially if you don’t have a garden or the right supplies.

But it doesn’t have to be hard.

The Herbal Academy’s Sensory Approach Workshop is back on August 14th, and it’s perfect for beginners.

In fact, my 14-year-old and I will take part together as we ease into her Grade 9 homeschool year.

In this free 3-part series, you’ll learn how to use herbs easily, just by using your senses.

You’ll get simple recipes and learn about important herbs to keep in your home.

Sign up for the Sensory Approach Workshop now and start your herbal journey.

And did I mention that it's free?

That's all for now.

Until next time!
